Definition
An initial DEX offering (IDO) introduces tokens through infrastructure associated with decentralized trading or a launch platform. Projects may use it to distribute an initial allocation and establish a market. The term covers different arrangements rather than one standard contract or universal participation policy.
How It Works
Participants follow the platform’s allocation and payment rules, which may include eligibility checks, caps or staged access. Tokens can be claimable immediately or subject to vesting. Liquidity provision and the opening of trading may be coordinated with the sale but should be checked as separate steps.
Key Considerations
Using decentralized infrastructure does not guarantee unrestricted access, thorough project screening or sufficient liquidity. Launch prices can change sharply, and bots, concentrated allocations or contract vulnerabilities can affect outcomes. Listing on a DEX does not mean the exchange operator has endorsed the asset. Review the actual sale contract, allocation, unlock schedule and liquidity arrangements, and distinguish a token purchase from any rights or services the project separately promises.
