Definition
A wallet address is an address associated with a wallet’s activity on a particular blockchain. A wallet can manage many addresses, so the two terms are not interchangeable. The address does not contain the assets itself; the network records balances or spendable outputs according to its accounting model.
Receiving Assets
A sender uses the destination address when preparing a transaction. The recipient must verify that the address, asset and network match what the receiving wallet or service supports. Some custodial deposit arrangements also require a memo or tag to credit the correct customer. These service requirements are additional to the base address format.
Key Considerations
An address can usually be shared to receive funds, but it may reveal transaction history or create identity links. Private keys and recovery phrases must not be shared with a sender. Similar address formats across networks can lead to mistakes, and successful submission does not guarantee a custodial service can credit the transfer. For unfamiliar routes, a small test transfer can help confirm compatibility without making the route risk-free.
