In One Sentence

To shill is to promote an asset or project enthusiastically, often with an implied personal or commercial interest.

Shill is crypto slang for promoting a token, project, or investment to attract interest and buyers. As a noun, a shill is the promoter; as a verb, it describes the promotion. The term often implies biased advocacy or undisclosed incentives, although communities sometimes use it casually for any enthusiastic recommendation.

How promotion can be framed

A person might repeatedly post ambitious price targets, highlight only favorable news, or encourage followers to buy while holding the same token. Payment, referral revenue, or the chance to sell an existing position can create incentives that differ from the audience's interests.

Not every positive comment is deceptive, and an accusation of shilling does not by itself prove misconduct. Disclosed marketing and evidence-based discussion still need to be assessed on their content.

Reading beyond enthusiasm

Useful questions include who benefits, what evidence supports the claims, and which risks or limitations are omitted. Repeated messages from multiple accounts may not represent independent agreement. A persuasive personality or a disclaimer such as NFA cannot verify a project. Shill describes a promotional role or style; it does not establish investment quality or predict demand.
