Definition
An NFT marketplace provides an interface and trading arrangements for NFTs. Listings may use fixed prices, auctions or offers. Some services specialize in particular networks or collections, while others aggregate listings from multiple sources. A website’s catalog and the underlying settlement contracts are separate parts of the service.
How It Works
Sellers authorize listings or token transfers, and buyers submit payment or offers under the trading rules. A sale can settle through a smart contract, a custodial system or another supported process. Fees, royalty treatment and cancellation mechanics depend on the marketplace and listing type.
Key Considerations
A visible listing does not prove authenticity or guarantee that it remains executable. Stale approvals, changed ownership or expired offers can prevent settlement. Marketplace verification labels do not automatically establish the rights attached to an item. Users should inspect the actual collection contract, payment asset and permissions requested. Removing a listing from a website also does not necessarily revoke an on-chain approval or eliminate every previously signed order.
