Definition
A proposal presents an action for consideration by a project’s governance process. It normally explains the problem, the intended change and the expected consequences. In on-chain governance, it may also specify executable contract calls rather than only descriptive text.
How It Works
The process can begin with forum discussion and a preliminary poll before a formal vote. Submission thresholds, voting periods, quorum and approval requirements determine whether the proposal advances. A successful vote may be followed by a timelock or separate execution step. The exact sequence depends on the system.
Key Considerations
A published proposal is not an implemented change. Its title or summary can also differ from the effect of the attached transactions, so executable details matter. Review the requested permissions, asset movements and dependencies, including whether administrators retain veto or cancellation powers. Proposal status should be described accurately as draft, active, approved, queued, executed or another applicable state rather than assuming that community discussion alone changes the protocol.
