Definition
A listing makes an asset or instrument available for a specified platform service. A token’s spot listing, a new trading pair, and a derivatives contract listing are different events. One token can have several pairs, and support for a derivative does not necessarily mean users can deposit the underlying token.
How It Works
An announcement usually identifies the instrument, quote currency, and service opening times. Deposits, trading, and withdrawals may start separately. When trading opens, orders and available liquidity establish executable prices; the first displayed price does not guarantee that every participant can transact at that level.
Key Considerations
A listing is not an endorsement of future returns or proof that an asset is safe. Early markets may have thin order books and wide spreads. Confirm the exact asset identity and supported network, especially when tickers are shared, and distinguish an official platform announcement from an unverified claim that a listing is coming.
