Floor Price

In One Sentence

An NFT collection’s floor price is usually the lowest qualifying asking price among its currently listed items on a specified market.

Definition

The floor price summarizes the cheapest eligible listing in an NFT collection under a platform’s methodology. It is an asking price, not necessarily a completed sale or a price that someone will pay for any item. Different marketplaces can report different floors for the same collection.

How It Is Used

Traders use the figure as a quick indication of entry-level listing prices. The calculation may exclude suspicious listings or focus on a particular payment currency. A collection-wide floor can also differ from the floor for a trait or subset. Removing or filling one low listing may noticeably change the displayed value.

Key Considerations

Thin liquidity makes a floor easy to misinterpret. Multiplying it by every item in a collection does not establish realizable market value. Stale listings, restricted transfers, outliers and manipulation can distort the figure. A seller seeking immediate execution should examine actual bids and recent trades as well as asks. Comparisons require consistent marketplace coverage, currency, eligibility rules and observation time.
